CASTING

About to go out and do some research for a new project. Not to think too far ahead but for now I’ll be looking at certain areas around Sheffield. Then certain areas within those areas. Repeat. Until I find something quite specific. When I’ve found [it], I shall cast from it.
I don’t know what will happen with the negative cast yet.
I don’t usually post up thoughts for projects but I feel like I owe my blog an update.
An inspiration! Thanks diefabrik.

By Richard Wilson. “The most daring piece of public art ever commissioned in the UK” – www.biennial.com
Love this. You can see my (quite rubbish) phone video HERE or an ‘official’ one HERE.
Why can’t every city have something like this? Go and have a look if you’re around in Liverpool, it’s well worth it.
3b ARCHIVE SHOW: The Ebb Whispers

Last year I took part in two final shows at Unit 3b art space.
One was BOUND and the other was an Archive Show; a collection of works by artists who have been involved with 3b throughout it’s time.
I actually only made one piece of work, but it’s nature was such that it had to stay in situ for the Archive Show, after Bound had finished.
I’ve included a plan view of the exhibition to show how many people were involved and give an idea of the space. My work was a short piece of text that I carved into the wall.

You should all have a look at this little blog by Tina Richardson, based in Leeds, UK.
“This is an ongoing project that takes place on the University of Leeds campus and was started in November 2010. I am taking photos of found objects… that could have conceivably been dropped accidentally.
These items may well be classified as rubbish at the point they hit the ground, but the objects that intrigue me are those that could have possibly been lost, and at that moment in time, could have been attributed some value by the owner.”
The project focuses on the idea of accidental loss of an object; objects which are then indexed, temporally and spatially. Kind of like a map of loss. There are some similarities between this project and one of the first projects I posted on this blog, titled MISSING
I was interested in the body as a found object, and I see similarities in the projects because we’ve both concentrated on the place of discovery then mapped, in one way or another, those places.

Just a quick post to highlight a great blog!
I was made aware thanks to my good pal Sarah Smizz.
We’re hatching a plan for city wide domination! Not really, but we are pulling together a great proposal for an exhibition that will *hopefully* be in Manchester. If not, probably Sheffield. We’re very excited!
But what the hell has this got to do with BLDGBLOG? Well, everyone is inspired by something. So, thanks BLDGBLOG – you’re an inspiration!

The excellent Blog Gallery in Sheffield has commissioned me for their Billboards Project. A couple of artists each year have free reign over what is shown on the boards. I’m excited to be a part of this quirky and exciting project and send out my thanks to Bloc for the opportunity and appreciation of my work.
Bloc Billboard is situated on Eyre Lane outside the gallery and is used by artists as an experimental public exhibition space. The exhibition will be up until November, so if you get chance, pop down and have a look.

PRISM is a bi-monthly contemporary art event. Established at The Showroom Cinema in 2008 it utilises various venues across Sheffield to exhibit work by emerging and established artists. This January it continues its residency at Bank St Arts – have a look at their SITE, they do good things!
For details, have a look on the FACEBOOK page or check out the BLOG.
I’m excited.

Some shots of different pieces of work by BAPTISTE DEBOMBOURG. Thanks to BUMBUMBUM for directing me to the work.
I think I love 90% of work that relates to architecture, the built environment, installation art, urban environments, text, interventions, etc. This stuff seems to tick all the boxes… What do you think? I’d like to start using my blog as a means of generating discussion, critical or otherwise, so use the comments if you have anything you’d like to say!
Tell everyone!
