YVES NETZHAMMER

I saw Dialogical Abrasion by Yves Netzhammer at the Liverpool Biennial last year. It was probably one of my favourite pieces from the whole festival. I know it was last year and I probably should have blogged about it earlier but there you go.

The piece was a site-specific sculptural installation. It felt almost labyrinth like, unnerving and unsettling. Familiar objects suddenly became unfamiliar and strange. The immersive atmosphere completely overwhelming my senses…

If you ever have a chance to experience his work, you should!

SPACE & PLACE

This is the plan view of my installation, the first section (before the first curtain) is white, and everywhere beyond the curtain is blacked out.

This is the view of the space as soon as you walk into the entrance.

The view as you move further into the space towards the ramp and first curtain.

As the viewer finds their way through the second corridor, they are filmed from behind by a camera which is feeding live to a projector. The viewer controls how much light is recorded and projected through their own movements. The camera and projector work to create a ‘never-ending’ space in front of the viewer, as they see the recording of themselves from behind, projected in front of them over and over again into a ‘virtual space’.
