My work is usually a reaction to an architectural space or situation within one. The result usually comes in the forms of text, sculptures or interventions and are momentary or fleeting. I try to use materials that could collectively suggest community or strength, but individually imply an unsteadiness or vulnerability. I’m particularly interested in the way architectural structures make us feel. Themes that seem to crop up are isolation, alienation and instability. I try to parse the space.
Important aspects of my installation pieces are the feelings I generate in the audience through the ‘recreation’ of space – such as comfort, uneasiness, or the uncanny and unfamiliar yet intriguing.

I am also a core member of the Sheffield based art group Contemporary Art as Dialogue (CAaD). The group’s activities are primarily supportive of each other’s individual practice and so very often each member will offer help to another when setting up exhibitions, or offering critical advice at regular meetings. The group also has a collaborative practice investigating the notion of public collaboration and the reclaiming of space, and often acts as an interventionist organisation.
